KOOTENAI NATIONAL FOREST
2015-2016 AVALANCHE AND SNOWPACK INFORMATION
Due to changes in current funding levels and personnel changes the Kootenai National Forest (KNF) will be making some changes as to how avalanche conditions are reported on the Flathead Avalanche Center (FAC) website. The FAC hosts the KNF avalanche and snowpack information on their website (flatheadavalanche.org). For the winter of 2015-2016 the KNF will be posting a weekly snowpack summary on Thursday afternoons via the FAC website beginning December 24th. We will no longer be posting an “advisory” with an associated avalanche hazard rating. Since we are fiscally unable to provide daily coverage, we will be providing the weekly snowpack summary and increasing opportunities for avalanche education in the communities that reside within the Kootenai National Forest.
For questions regarding these changes or suggestions please contact Ben Bernall at the Three Rivers Ranger District. (bbernall@fs.fed.us)
