Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:
We toured up West Willow at 9am 1/22/22, finding spring-like conditions at low elevation. We first skied a low-angle (N aspect) into Friday bowl and found soft snow, a little sluffing, and nothing unexpected based on the forecast. The ridge of Willow was soft and covered in surface hoar. We dug a pit on an east aspect from the top of the peak in an area not loaded by wind. We found reactivity in the upper 50cm of the snowpack but no propagation in our ECT. We did see debris of several avalanches on the west face of Stevens--hard to say when they went, but we guessed during Thursday's wet storm; we saw no signs of recent avalanches on Willow. We skied the slope and encountered minor sluffing.
