DESCRIPTION:The Friends of Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center is holding a Level 1 Avalanche Safety Course at Silver Mountain Resort. The course compromised of two portions: an online classroom followed by two days (Saturday and Sunday) in the backcountry around the resort. IPAC’s experienced instructors will demonstrate systematic approaches for sorting and prioritizing information in the complex environment of decision-making in the backcountry.  Topics covered include: preparation\, planning\, and execution of a backcountry tour based on avalanche conditions\, avalanche terrain identification\, hazard mitigation and safe travel techniques; weather\, snowpack\, and stability analysis; and advanced avalanche rescue techniques. Students MUST complete an avalanche rescue fundamentals course as a required prerequisite for participation in IPAC Level 1.\n \nThis course requires lift access via the ski area.
