$75The Friends of Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center is holding an Avalanche Rescue Fundamentals Course at Silver Mountain Resort. The objective of this course is to become a prepared and informed group member in the winter backcountry. Avalanche Rescue Fundamentals is a required prerequisite for participation in IPAC Level 1 courses.

Description
Students will spend a full day learning the basics of avalanche rescue with a qualified and experienced IPAC instructor. The objective of this course is to become a prepared and informed group member in the winter backcountry. All graduates are strongly encouraged to seek the guidance of a more experienced backcountry traveler and complete an IPAC Level 1 course before heading out on their own. This course will not take place in avalanche terrain. Remember, this course is a required prerequisite for participation in IPAC Level 1 courses.
Details:
- This course introduces the fundamentals of avalanche rescue and is a required prerequisite for participation in IPAC Level 1 and Advanced Rescue courses.
- Designed for beginners and experienced riders seeking review.
- Students must provide all required equipment: Gear needs are location dependent!
- Schweitzer: No riding gear required. This course will take place on foot, near a parking area.
- Silver: Touring skis or split board – SNOWSHOES ARE NOT ALLOWED
- Mt Spokane: No riding gear required. This course will take place on foot, a 10-15 minute walk from a parking area.
- Avalanche beacon, probe, and shovel
- Backpack (25-35L)
- Layered clothing appropriate for spending an entire day in the winter backcountry

Enrollment Policies
Age Policy
Students must be 18 years of age or older unless accompanied by parent/guardian except the Youth Backcountry 101 course.
Refund/Cancellation Policy
If you are unable to attend a course that you have registered and paid for, and you notify us that you are unable to attend at least 1 week before the date of the course, you will receive a 100% refund minus any transaction or processing fees. If you notify us less than 1 week before the course, you will receive a 50% refund.
